Most folks who have grown up with computers or been a past AOL user are familar with how to create an avatar but for those who do not here is a short tutorial for you along with some sites that provide free tools as well.

Free tools
1. Shrink Pictures - easy site that will let you upload a picture and then chose the size. Typically an avatar is 80 x 80 or 50 x 50 and some sites will size your images to thier standards, however if it is too big or too small the image will be fuzzy.

2. DoppleMe - this site lets you create a person avator, you can chose your skin color, eye color, facial expression, along with clothing. Really fun to come up with different combinations.
